 Building Homes for Heroes®

A 501(c) (3) national non-profit, non-partisan organization that is an organization close to my heart.  I am a founding board member of the organization and work locally with volunteers to raise awareness and funds to continue its mission of gifting mortgage-free homes to severely wounded veterans throughout the nation.

The organization was founded in 2006. Their mission, "Building Homes for Heroes® is strongly committed to rebuilding lives and supporting the brave men and women who were injured while serving the country during the time of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The organization builds or modifies homes, and gifts them, mortgage-free, to veterans and their families. It'sour honor to support the men and women who have loyally and courageously served our country."

The purpose and drive of this organization are pure and truly serves their mission. Neither the CEO nor its board members receive compensation for their duties making for low administrative costs and a very high program percentage (93%). Only a small percentage of funds are allocated to overhead. Building Homes for Heroes® has received a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator (CN), two years running; this is CN's highest rating. To date, this organization has gifted 135 homes including four homes this year in 2018 and two in Colorado! Building Homes for Heroes® has a well-rounded approach supporting the gifting of homes with additional programs. Their additional programs include financial planning services, family funding, and emergency support for any advice and guidance a homeowner, sometimes first time homeowners will need. All provided pro bono to the veteran.

Many of our veterans and their families are receiving their first home. The genuine heartfelt emotion is unforgettable and is a reminder of what this organization and all of its members and volunteers stand for. For more information visit www.buildinghomesforheroes.org
